First
Build your materials once — properly — then move on. Most people waste months going in circles re-writing their CV instead of doing what actually gets them hired. Start with your foundations (Step 1). Do it once, get feedback, and declare it done. Then shift almost all your energy to relationship building. Don't loop back to materials. Loop forward to relationships.
Phase 1
Do Once
Build your LinkedIn profile, CV/resume, portfolio, and digital presence. Use the ASGC resource library and our free reviewers to get it right. Refine once or twice after feedback. Then stop and move to what matters: showing up, building real connections, and letting people know you exist.

Step 1 — Build Your Foundations
1
LinkedIn Profile — as important as your CV, possibly moreComplete every section: professional photo, compelling headline, About Me that tells your story, all experience entries filled out with achievements not duties, skills, custom banner, and favorite a few posts to show your interests. Incomplete profiles hurt you.→ ASGC has free CV & LinkedIn reviewers→ Use them before you apply to anything
2
Resume / CV — tailor it, don't mass-apply with one versionATS-friendly (no tables or images) · Achievements with numbers: "Shipped X, used by Y" · 1–2 pages max · Tailor for each role.→ Free templates in our Resource Library→ Free reviewers available through ASGC
3
Portfolio / GitHub / Personal Site3–5 strong, well-documented projects beats 20 rushed ones. Good README files matter. Show your thinking, not just the output. Link everything from LinkedIn.→ Portfolio reviewers available through ASGC→ Get feedback before sharing widely
4
Clean digital presenceProfessional email · Google yourself · Consistent name and handle across all platforms
🔍 Step 2 — Active Search
Referrals first — alwaysBefore applying cold to anything, check Discord and your network. A warm intro changes everything. ASGC Jobs has 100+ places to look — But always try for a referral before you click apply.
Cover letters: custom or skip entirelyA generic cover letter is worse than none. Either write one that's genuinely specific to that role and company, or don't write one. There is no middle ground.
Track every applicationSpreadsheet: company, role, date, status, contact. Follow up once after 7–10 days. Templates available in the ASGC Resource Library.

Learn something from every cycleAfter each rejection or interview, write down one thing you'd do differently. One insight per round compounds into a noticeably stronger candidate over time.
⚡ Before you click Apply — ask yourself:
Do I have a warm connection here, or can I get one first?
Is this genuinely a role I want and am right for?
Have I customized this application for this specific role?
If all three aren't yes — Stop, fix it, or skip this one.
💬 Step 3 — Interviews & Offers
Practice with a real coach before the real thingASGC has free interview coaches. Book a mock interview — Hearing yourself answer questions out loud is completely different from preparing in your head. Do at least one before your first interview.
Research deeply, then bring good questionsKnow the company's recent news, their products, and the team you'd join. Have 3–5 genuine questions ready. Interviewers remember the questions you ask.
Negotiate every offer — alwaysSalary, title, remote flexibility, start date, equity. Even a polite counter is expected. If you don't ask, you don't get.
Send a thank-you within 24 hoursAlmost no one does it. It takes 2 minutes and they remember you for it.
Ask for feedback on rejectionsNot everyone will respond, but when they do it's gold. Ask politely and specifically.
🌱 Long-Term — Do These Forever
Keep your LinkedIn and CV updated every monthEven when happily employed. Your career is always in motion. Staying current means you're never starting from scratch.
Build relationships before you need themDon't network only when you're desperate. Genuine relationships built in good times are the ones that deliver in hard times.
Help others — it pays forwardAnswer questions, share resources, make introductions freely. The people who give without keeping score get remembered, referred, and hired. Generosity compounds faster than any job application.
Build your online presence and find your voiceBe in communities — Discord, LinkedIn, industry groups. Post, share your perspective, create. A consistent presence builds a brand that works for you while you sleep. All of it compounds.
🧠 Mindset
Rejection is data, not verdict — every "no" narrows toward the right "yes"
Quality beats volume — 10 targeted applications beats 100 generic ones
Ask for help — ASGC exists because no one should navigate this alone
